Washington, D.C. – During Associated Builders and Contractors’ (ABC) 2012 Legislative Conference (LegCon) held today in Washington, D.C., U.S. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said the House will vote later this month on extending all current tax rates.  

“We can’t raise taxes on the very people we expect to create jobs,” said Boehner. “That makes no economic sense.”  

Boehner also stated Obamacare is driving up the cost of health care for small businesses and making it harder to create jobs. “So tomorrow, once again, the House is going to vote to repeal all of Obamacare,” he said.  

“I’m a big believer in the free-enterprise system and a limited government here in Washington,” Boehner added. “If we don’t get government in Washington under control, the future for my kids and your kids is not going to be there because those opportunities will be snuffed out.”  

Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio), who spoke before Boehner, focused his remarks on reducing government regulations, and reforming the tax code.  

“Our tax code is antiquated, outdated and is driving companies overseas,” Portman said. “We need to get rid of the loopholes and lower the marginal rate—not tax cuts, but a revenue- neutral approach to tax reform that actually gives the economy a shot in the arm.”
