Washington, D.C.– Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) today announced that Tim C. Walton, director of external affairs and public policy at CIANBRO, Pittsfield, Maine, will serve as ABC’s ambassador to Merit Canada. The position will directly support and promote the efforts of the CAN-AM Merit Alliance, formed between ABC and Merit Canada to further promote free enterprise and the merit shop philosophy, under which construction contracts are awarded to construction companies based on merit.
“ABC is thrilled to be a part of this alliance and we are happy to announce that Tim will be serving as our ambassador in this important partnership,” said 2014 ABC National Chairman Dan Brodbeck, president and CEO of Compass Partners, LLC, Brentwood, Tenn. “Tim’s experience at ABC and in the industry will be a major asset in working together with Merit Canada to address key issues relevant to construction contractors in North America and advancing free enterprise and the merit shop philosophy.”
Walton was appointed ambassador by Brodbeck and will be responsible for working with ABC and Merit Canada representatives to coordinate efforts related to program delivery, public policy initiatives and events.
On Feb. 13, ABC and Merit Canada signed a joint resolution expressing a commitment to support the merit shop and free-enterprise philosophies; improve the construction industry and help contractors provide rewarding long-term careers for their employees in the construction industry; encourage and promote the safety and welfare of all employees in the construction industry; support government policies that encourage and facilitate the awarding of contracts without regard to protectionism; increase international business opportunities for firms and reduce barriers to the employment of workers outside their home countries; provide services to the construction industry in both Canada and the U.S.; and work together to facilitate more effective service delivery for their respective members.
