ABC's annual Legislative Conference in Washington, DC brings together merit shop contractors from across the country to meet with their elected representatives.
The conference ensures that members of Congress meet face-to-face with their constituents to hear the merit shop message. The program includes individual visits to the Capital Hill offices of senators and members of the House of Representatives, seminars on legislative issues and presentations by congressional leaders.
Five individuals from the ABC student chapters program nationwide attended the event held in Washington, DC June 12-14, 2007. Fellowship recipients are
competitively selected based on their leadership skills, knowledge of the construction industry and active involvement with their ABC student chapter.
In addition to being a dynamic and unique learning experience, this event gives student participants an opportunity to:
- Develop a better understanding of the legislative and regulatory process
- Understand how legislation and regulation affects the construction industry
- Build relationships with local ABC members and board representatives
- Gain exposure to the critical issues directly impacting construction today
- Network with and learn from other student chapter leaders
- Learn more about ABC
