JOB OVERVIEW

The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), SoCal Chapter is committed to helping meet the employment needs within the building trades by providing classroom instructions in one or more of the following trades (Electrical, EST, Plumbing, Sheet Metal and HVAC). Instructors are required to maintain classroom conduct, information, material, equipment, tools, and labs. This position requires the employee to work from both the Anaheim and Riverside office locations.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct training classes during the appointed hours. Instructors are expected to be at class before class is scheduled to start. Instructors are also expected to hold class until the appointed ending hour.
  • Continually review, update, and develop ABC’s electrical curriculum for the electrical training program. This includes lesson plans, worksheets, assessments, study guides, and presentations, and other instructor and student resources.
  • Assist other curriculum development teams with developing ABC’s non-electrical curriculum.
  • Conduct onboarding for new instructors.
  • Conduct training and upskilling of other instructors to benefit all ABC training programs.
  • Keep accurate attendance and grading records for each student.
  • Organize and orchestrate trade-specific field trips for your class with the approval of ABC SoCal.
  • Follow, support, and enforce all standards and policies set forth by ABC for students and instructors.
  • Support craft championships by promoting the event to your students and encouraging them to attend. Instructor/Lab tech may be required to work the event.
  • Secure or request material from the Director of Training for hands-on performance evaluations.
  • Instructors/lab tech must stay in constant communication with the Director of Training to ensure continuity of class and program.
  • Support annual ABC SoCal events, including but not limited to graduation.
  • Attend instructor and staff meetings.
  • Other duties as necessary and assigned.

Specialized Skills:

  • Knowledge of construction safety is required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both written and orally.
  • Effective facilitation and teaching skills.
  • Must be able to safely and effectively use various hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of common office equipment operation, including copiers, mail machines, fax machines, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe programs.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Instructors must be at a journeyman level, technician level, or above in their craft.
  • Electrical Instructors must be able to successfully complete Mike Holt’s Becoming a Great Instructor course.
  • A resume documenting actual experience in areas of expertise is required.
  • Have a valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands:

While performing the responsibilities the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. This position requires the employee to drive to different ABC SoCal office locations. Reaching, and able to lift heavy objects in excess of 50 pounds and pushing and pulling of objects is required.

Work Environment:

This position is performed in multiple workplace settings, including a classroom environment, a simulated building & construction environment, and a typical office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, hand tools, power tools, and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
