JOB OVERVIEW

The Senior Accountant will report directly to the Controller and work closely with the rest of the accounting team. The Senior Accountant will have both accounting and financial analysis responsibilities. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for the preparation of journal entries and financial reports for ABC a 501(c)6 trade association as well as assisting the Controller and Accounting Manager in implementing a financial framework across ABC’s 67 chapters.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries for ABC, and related organizations.
  • Play a critical role in the month-end and year-end general ledger closing process.
  • Assist in preparation of financial statements for ABC, CLRF, and ABC Services Corporation.
  • Maintain monthly and year-end supporting schedules and account reconciliations, including clearing reconciling items in account reconciliations in a timely manner.
  • Develop financial analysis reports and forecasts, including assisting in developing and maintaining cash flow forecasts.
  • Coordinate with department managers during annual budget preparation and periodic forecast updates.
  • Assist in the preparation and coordination of the annual financial statement audit and Form 990.
  • Maintain the compliance calendar and ensure timely filings required by Maryland and DC government.
  • Coordinating special accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the finance team or with other departments

Specialized Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting and financial reporting systems
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office tools, especially with Microsoft Excel
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), particularly for non-profit organizations
  • Ability to analyze and reconcile general ledger transactions Ability to create and maintain financial reporting templates
  • Knowledge of accounting for consolidating entities
  • Propose and implement strategies to improve accounting processes and financial stability of ABC, CLRF, and ABCSC

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience, ideally with non-profit organizations.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) license is a plus.
  • Experience in Accounting or Finance within an Association, preferred.

This role is carried out in a standard office setting with minimal noise. ABC provides flexible working hours to support various lifestyles and encourage a healthy work-life balance. Depending on the position and with managerial approval, a hybrid remote work arrangement may be possible if the primary work location is the ABC National office.
