Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) is a national association representing 21,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms in 69 chapters across the United States. ABC's membership represents all specialties within the U.S. construction industry and is comprised primarily of firms that perform work in the industrial and commercial sectors of the industry.  The North Florida Chapter represents members in 22 counties of the panhandle of Florida. ABC is the construction industry's voice with the legislative, executive and judicial branches of the federal government and with state and local governments, as well as with the news media.

The position of the President of the Associated Builders and Contractors of North Florida Chapter encompasses the following:

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years’ association management experience with a focus on nonprofit leadership
  • Previous experience with Construction or other craft driven industry highly desired.
  • A focus on establishing long term relationships and skilled at identifying member needs
  • Business acumen with strong organizational skills, a sense of urgency and a commitment to quality.
  • Focused and displays a goal and task-oriented work ethic
  • Strong knowledge and experience in working with QuickBooks
  • Must exhibit strong event planning skills including pre-planning, execution and event follow-up
  • Ability to fundraise to support the initiatives of the chapter
  • Experienced strategically using social media tools and marketing rollout
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with a high level of energy, enthusiasm and passion for free enterprise
  • Must exhibit excellent written/verbal communication and exceptional member service skills
  • Driven to succeed with excellent problem-solving skills with integrity, sound judgment and a sense of urgency
  • Ability to frequently work outside of the core business hours
  • Ability to travel for chapter, state and national events

Summary Description:

  1. Represent the associations interests through government advocacy
  2. Develop and maintain a strong membership base
  3. Provide valuable and timely education/training opportunities for members and their staff
  4. Execute on delivering successful events
  5. Communicate effectively with the public, the media, and other groups about ABC’s mission, accomplishments, and activities
  6. Work with the Chapter Chairman, Board of Directors, regularly reporting on association activities, and following through on-board approved policies and plans
  7. With the Treasurer, oversee the financial operations of the association, reporting to the board regularly, including assisting in developing the annual budget
  8. Is the chief staff liaison to ABC National staff, ABC of Florida staff, ABC North Florida board and Chapter committees
  9. Responsible for management of the association’s staff
  10. Runs the day to day operations of the Chapter
  11. Is Proactive, Accountable, Discerning, Innovative, Collaborative, Integrity Based, Successful and Balanced.

Government Affairs:

  • Is the primary face of ABC NF in government affairs on a local level
  • In coordination with the Government Affairs Committee and the ABC of Florida lobbyist, review and evaluate proposed legislation and regulation and take action accordingly
  • Communicate to members the importance of government affairs, the most recent information on issues that will affect them and their business, and recruit members to be more involved in the political process

Membership:

  • Work to grow association membership as outlined in the ABC North Florida strategic plan
  • Maintain a strong focus on member satisfaction and retention
  • Regularly interface with ABC Contractor members to assess needs and communicate association activities
  • Increase membership engagement with ABC programs and services to assist members in working with each other to increase business opportunity for merit shop contractors

Education and Training:

  • In coordination with ABC National resources and other chapters, lead ABC North Florida’s development of a merit shop apprenticeship program
  • Create and develop management and workforce training programs that assist members and their staff in developing skills to help grow their business

Event Management:

  • Plans and facilitates all membership events in both Tallahassee and Pensacola
  • Facilitate the continued growth of ABC North Florida’s major membership events/member participation
  • Responsible for the management of event timelines including effective marketing and budgeting for all events

Communications:

  • Effectively communicate with media and trade press
  • Utilize ABC’s various electronic communication channels and social media to share information about ABC’s programs and government affairs efforts

Board and Governance:

  • Attend all ABC Board of Directors meetings and report on the association’s activities
  • Make policy recommendations to board in accordance with national policy and association goals and objectives and report on the associations strategic plan
  • Work with Board Chair and members to identify and recruit volunteer leaders and ensure a strong leadership succession

Financial Management:

  • Complete all accounting functions for the daily operations of the chapter
  • Work with Treasurer to establish an annual budget for the association
  • Report regularly on the association’s finances
  • Ensure associations policies and financial control procedures are executed

ABC National:

  • Complete all national reports as required by national board policy
  • Attend required national and regional meetings (approx. 4-5 per year)

ABC of Florida:

  • Attend required state board meetings (approx. 6 per year)
  • Attend ABC of Florida Legislative Conference
  • Attend ABC of Florida Planning Conference

ABC North Florida Chapter:

  • Attend and execute all chapter events in both Tallahassee and Pensacola (approx. 25 per year)
  • Attend all chapter board meetings (approx. 8 per year)

Staff Management/Human Resources:

  • Oversee all aspects of staff management and human resources including hiring, termination, evaluations and performance of association employees
  • Is a leader of the staff to motivate and create culture of high accountability and productivity
