Update on Design Value Reductions for Southern Pine Lumber

The American Lumber Standard Committee (ALSC) this year has approved design value changes for Southern Pine Lumber.

ALSC has reduced the design value of:

No.2 Dense 2-to-4 inches thick and 2-to-4 inches wide (Applies to Southern Pine but not Mixed Southern Pine)
No. 2 Non-Dense 2-to-4 inches thick and 2-to-4 inches wide (Applies to Southern Pine but not Mixed Southern Pine)
No. 2 2X4 and all lower grades of that size (Applies to visually graded Southern Pine and Mixed Southern Pine)

The design values will be effective beginning June 1

The design values for all other grades and sizes for Southern Pine Lumber will remain the same until otherwise noted by ALSC.

The Southern Pine Inspection Bureau continues to test other sizes and grades of the lumber and the ALSC expects the findings to be released in the Fall of 2012.
