Greg Sizemore, ABC’s vice president of health, safety, environment and workforce development and vice chair of the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention, spoke on a panel at the Construction Leadership Network Conference last week in Houston to discuss substance abuse and the rise of suicide in the construction industry.

On Jan. 15, pursuant to the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act, the U.S. Department of Labor published a final rule to adjust for inflation the civil monetary penalties assessed or enforced by the department, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, for 2020.

ABC, as part of the Construction Industry Safety Coalition, recently submitted comments to OSHA in regards to a proposed Beryllium rule. ABC stated that the 30-day timeframe OSHA requested for feedback was not enough time for people in the industry to submit thoughtful comments to the agency.

On Oct. 30, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration launched a new website, FindTreatment.gov, to help people struggling with substance abuse and addiction locate treatment centers and to provide them with additional resources. 

On Oct. 15, ABC submitted comments as part of the Construction Industry Safety Coalition on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Request for Information on Table 1 of the agency’s Respirable Crystalline Silica Standard for Construction.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration published a new webpage that provides various resources for workers on suicide prevention. 

ABC is observing Construction Safety Week 2019 from May 6-10 with an awareness campaign highlighting member achievements in safety performance and our collective commitment to creating the conditions for all to do their work without incident and go home safe and healthy every day.

From Feb. 24 to March 31, ABC members are encouraged to participate in the third annual National Ladder Safety Month to raise awareness of ladder safety and decrease the number of ladder-related injuries and fatalities.
