In a victory for merit shop construction and free enterprise, Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam (R) April 30 signed into law a bill (S.B. 1209) that repeals prevailing wage requirements on all vertical construction projects in the state.
In the wake of the Boston marathon bombings, The ABC Massachusetts Chapter has made a contribution to the One Fund Boston, Inc., the charity set up by Gov. Deval Patrick and Mayor Thomas Menino to provide support to those affected by this tragic event.
A new Facebook contest beginning Thursday, April 25 supports the 2013 National Craft Championships (NCC) competitors who are gearing up for the competition, which will be held April 30-May 2. The contest provides an opportunity to vote for one of the 13 crafts represented at the competition. To vote, visit the NCC Facebook page here. The winning craft will be announced at NCC Thursday, May 2.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Louisville, Mobile, Sacramento and St. Louis Districts are requesting responses from the construction industry about the potential use of government-mandated project labor agreements (PLAs) on four large-scale federal projects.
ABC celebrated another victory in the fight against government-mandated PLAs after the DOL awarded ABC New Hampshire/Vermont Chapter member Eckman Construction Company a $31.6 million contract to build a DOL Job Corps Center in Manchester, N.H., after removing a controversial PLA mandate from the federal project’s solicitation for construction services. Eckman Construction Company, Bedford N.H., submitted a bid that was more than $6 million below the lowest offer when the project was subjected to a PLA.
