The Stop the HIT Coalition, of which ABC is a member, March 19 sent a letter to members of the U.S. Senate offering support for the Jobs and Premium Protection Act of 2013, introduced by Sen. John Barrasso and Sen. Orrin Hatch, that would repeal the health insurance tax provisions in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
ABC March 13 joined five other construction groups to send a letter to members of the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Workforce Protections outlining the features of a successful guestworker program in response to a hearing, "Examining the Role of Lower-Skilled Guest Worker Programs in Today's Economy.”
ABC March 12 submitted comments in response to a Department of Labor information request regarding a proposed worker classification survey. According to DOL, the proposed survey would “collect information about employment experiences and workers’ knowledge of basic employment laws and rules so as to better understand employees’ experience with worker misclassification.”
The U.S. House of Representatives March 15 voted 215-202 to pass the Supporting Knowledge and Investing in Lifelong Skills Act (H.R. 803), which will strengthen the workforce development system and increase employment opportunities by creating a more streamlined approach that focuses on businesses’ hiring and training needs.
Effective Feb. 28, the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs has released new procedures for reviewing contractor compensation programs and practices.
The Department of Labor has issued a self-compliance tool for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act provisions related to part 7 of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.
