CNA will hold a free webinar Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. for ABC members only on incident investigation in the workplace. Gary Murral, CNA’s EPL risk control director, will help members identify underlying causes that may lead to an unexpected event and will define the steps used to complete effective investigations.
ABC Jan. 17 sent a letter to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie urging him not to sign legislation that would allow the state and local government entities to mandate PLAs on even more public construction contracts than are currently permitted, including Superstorm Sandy relief efforts.
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released a report showing a drop in union membership from 14 percent to 13.2 percent in the U.S. private construction industry from 2011 to 2012. Today 86.8 percent of the private construction workforce chooses not to belong to a union.
Nine ABC member companies, representing 20 chapters, were ranked by Fortune magazine in their annual “Top Companies to Work For” list. The EPA in November 2012 began issuing enforcement actions for violations of its Lead-Safe Renovation Repair and Painting rule, which went into effect in April 2010, and began mailing postcards to uncertified renovation contractors in target areas.
The Environmental Protection Agency in January settled a longstanding lawsuit that had been brought against its 2009 rule on Effluent Limitation Guidelines by agreeing to withdraw the numeric limit for turbidity in stormwater discharges.
