ABC on Nov. 13 renewed its Statement of Support with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense agency that promotes employer support of employees’ service.
ABC members and chapters a can send their best craft trainees to compete in the 2013 National Craft Championships (NCC), to be held April 30-May 3 in Birmingham, Ala. During this intense two-day event, young men and women compete in one of 13 competitions, representing 11 crafts.
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced the addition of a Spanish language version of “Nail Gun Safety: A Guide for Construction Contractors.”
At an Oct. 11 national meeting of the BIMForum in Tacoma, Wash., McGraw-Hill Construction presented new research showing that 74 percent of contractors are now using Building Information Modeling (BIM). The report also showed that BIM usage among architects, engineers, contractors and owners in North America is at 71 percent, compared to 49 percent in 2009 and 17 percent in 2007.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Sept. 28 announced it added four new OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Education Centers in addition to renewing 24 existing centers. Among the renewed centers is the Mid-America OTI Education Center out of Springboro, Ohio, which is affiliated with the ABC Ohio Valley Chapter.
NCCER on Aug. 23 announced that it is modifying its certification terminology to clarify that a certified craft professional has successfully completed both the written and performance aspects of the National Craft Assessment and Certification Program.
