In 2016, Construction Executive magazine will begin publishing 10 print issues per year and providing two double issues—January/February and July/August—as a way to streamline production and keep up with association publishing trends. The goal is to maintain robust print content while enhancing the magazine’s digital and social media channels for an increasingly mobile audience.
West Virginia State Senator Sue Cline (R-Wyoming) was sworn into office on Jan. 25 following a Jan. 22 court decision requiring Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin (D- W.Va.) to appoint a Republican to fill a vacant seat. Sen. Cline was appointed to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Sen. Daniel Hall (R-Wyoming), who was elected as a Democrat but switched parties prior to resigning.
ABC is reminding its contractor member firms that their 2015 Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Form 300A work-related injury and illness log summaries must be posted in a visible spot on all construction sites from Feb. 1 through April 30.
The FaverGray Company of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., a member of ABC’s Florida First Coast chapter, has been awarded Accredited Quality Contractor (AQC) status by ABC. The AQC program recognizes and honors construction firms that document their commitment to excellence in five key areas of corporate responsibility: quality, safety, employee benefits, training and community relations.
Save the date and support the competitors of the 2016 National Craft Championships by volunteering to serve as a judge. All judges must be an ABC member and have a demonstrated expertise in one of the designated crafts. Judges are required to be onsite in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on Wednesday, March 2 and Thursday, March 3, and are invited to see the winners revealed at the Careers in Construction Awards ceremony on Friday, March 4.
Under new rules, effective Dec. 21, 2015 the Federal Aviation Administration is requiring anyone who buys a small unmanned aircraft system (UAS) that is more than .55 lbs and less than 55 lbs to register it before it is flown outside. Registration of the UAS can be done through the online registry for a fee of $5; the registration is valid for three years. Individuals who previously owned and operated a UAS have until Feb. 19, 2016 to register.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed an amended version of the Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act (H.R. 3762) Jan. 6, which would repeal several, job-killing provisions in the Affordable Care Act. The same version of the bill passed the Senate 52-47 in Dec. 2015.
