More than 400 ABC members came to Capitol Hill June 23-26 for ABC's 2015 Legislative Conference. The week kicked off with the first annual Diversity & Inclusion Summit, which featured a lively discussion about supplier diversity within the construction industry. The event also included a Legislative Breakfast, which featured a panel discussion on key issues facing the industry and a day on the Hill where ABC members had the chance to meet with their representatives in the House and the Senate. During the Legislative Breakfast, members heard from a panel consisting of Kevin Madden and Paul Begala who have both served as spokesmen and key advisors to prior presidential campaigns and are now regular CNN contributors. The panel was moderated by Senior Washington Correspondent for Politico, Anna Palmer. The group touched on subjects important to the ABC membership such as EPA overreach, transportation/highway funding, best practices when speaking with legislators, and an outlook on the 2016 presidential race. Also joining ABC for the breakfast was Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) who spoke about his experiences in passing successful reforms in North Carolina and suggested that Congress should follow the model of “working across the aisle.” Tillis also discussed the outlook for the 2016 Senate election cycle and stated that while it is going to be a challenge, he believes the Republicans will hold the Senate. He ended the breakfast by thanking ABC for all of the work and support they put in for his election. The week concluded with a day on the Hill which allowed ABC members from across the country to meet with members of congress and federal agencies to advance ABC's agenda on PLAs, tax reform, and burdensome regulations. June 20-23.
