Workforce Development
ABC’s 21st Century Workforce Development Conference, held April 30-May 3 in Birmingham Ala., drew nearly 1,000 attendees to its various Academies, competitions, career fairs and awards programs. The conference centered around the National Craft Championships—a two-day competition that showcased 137 craft trainees competing in 13 craft competitions. It also featured four educational Academies, which helped attendees gain the knowledge and tools to improve on-the-job performance. Employers also had the opportunity to watch students from 14 universities compete in the Construction Management Competition and interview many of them for internships or permanent positions. In addition, the Career Tech Expo was open to local Alabama high school students, vocational tech students, and veterans seeking employment on the craft-side of the construction industry.
