Kinsley Construction is a group of business units, each specializing in a specific market sector, such as education, healthcare, government, office, manufacturing, distribution, renovation, cultural, retail/commercial, hospitality and multi-family housing. The company is consistently ranked among the top 100 design/build firms and top 400 contractors in the nation, according to rankings by Engineering News-Record (ENR). As part of running a successful, profitable and growing business, Kinsley relies on Vista by Viewpoint as its comprehensive enterprise resource planning (ERP) software system. According to Kim Weikert, the company’s information technology manager, “Vista is a great fit for our business because it’s all-encompassing. It’s all in Vista, so you don’t have to go to a separate solution to complete a process.” Wanda Peatross, building division controller at Kinsley, agrees. “Using Vista for our accounts payable unapproved invoice process saves us from sending paper. An invoice that could’ve taken three to five days to make its way around the offices is now in the system and done within a day. The notification system is really helpful in driving attention and action.” Kinsley experiences further value by automating processes across accounting and project management. “The Viewpoint solution is our workhorse; it’s where you know to go to get easy access to the information you need,” said Weikert. “Vista keeps the whole company in sync with everything that’s going on,” said Peatross. “Information is entered daily from the field and if something goes awry in the first days of a job, you can see it and fix it, as opposed to waiting until payroll that’s posted a week later.” The entire Kinsley team experiences benefits by using Vista as the company-wide ERP solution, according to Weikert. “The field personnel submit their time electronically, which eliminates people either having to scan, fax, or drive in timesheets in order to make the payroll deadline.” With many pieces of equipment on the road, Kinsley found the process for managing its road-bound shop to have the potential for problems. “Our method for tracking some maintenance processes at the shop used to be all manual,” Weikert said. “Vista helps the process move along and keeps our records correct now that they are managed electronically.” According to Peatross, Vista is a great fit for Kinsley and other ENR 400 firms. “Our executive team relies on this solution for making projections. Vista is the whole package; it’s not necessary to enter data in duplicate areas or keep information in three different places,” she said.
