Delegates at the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., Aug. 28, formally adopted the party’s national platform. Contained in the 54-page document is language that “demands an end to project labor agreements.” In addition, the platform calls for the repeal of the Davis-Bacon Act, “which costs taxpayers billions of dollars annually in artificially high wages on government projects.”

The platform also includes language supporting states rights to enact Right-to-Work laws and encouraging them to do so “to promote greater economic liberty.”

Further, the Freedom in the Workplace section of the platform contains a strong statement protecting worker and employee rights: “We will restore the rule of law to labor law by blocking ‘card check,’ enacting the Secret Ballot Protection Act, enforcing the Hobbs Act against labor violence, and passing the Raise Act to allow all workers to receive well-earned raises without the approval of their union representative.”

The 2012 Republican platform committee was led by Gov. Bob McDonnell (R-Va.), Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.) and Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.).
