The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Dec. 6 issued a Request for Information as part of the fourth phase of its Standards Improvement Project (SIP-IV), which is meant to revise or remove standards that are confusing, outdated or duplicate, or are inconsistent with other standards. 

The SIP rulemaking process began in 1996 in response to a presidential memo to improve regulation and regulatory review. The purpose of SIP is to reduce the regulatory burden while maintain or enhancing worker safety and health. SIP-IV focuses primarily on OSHA’s construction standards. 

OSHA is encouraging employers, employees and employee representatives to submit recommendations for construction standards that should be revised, along with supporting evidence.
