Charles "Chuck" Lavin Jr., one of the founders of the ABC Yankee Chapter, passed away April 19 after a long illness. Lavin was born in Baltimore, Md., in 1940, and served as the first executive director of the ABC Yankee Chapter, which encompassed the six New England states, from its inception in 1968 until 1980.

The San Diego District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) April 17 named BPI Plumbing as their Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year and Michael Jason Ianni, president of M Bar C Construction, Inc., as the California Small Business Person of the Year.
The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Education and the Workforce April 17 approved the Working Families Flexibility Act of 2013 (H.R. 1406) by a vote of 23-14. The bill would amend the Fair Labor Standards Act to provide compensatory time for employees in the private sector.
ABC, in conjunction with four other construction groups, advocated for a reasonable and balanced approach to comprehensive immigration reform in a Feb. 22 letter sent to the “Gang of Eight,” a bipartisan group of Senators working on the same issue. The letterwas signed by ABC, Associated General Contractors, Leading Builders of America, National Association of Home Builders and National Roofing Contractors Association.
