Shapiro & Duncan in the Community

Shapiro & Duncan, Rockville, Md., believes that building the community they live in goes beyond the physical construction work they do and involves giving back to the people that surround them. Throughout the year, the company and its employees support a wide variety of organizations such as Junior Achievement, Food & Friends, Rebuilding Together, DC Students Construction Trades Foundation, and Operation Renewed Hope Foundation.

While working with Junior Achievement, an organization that provides financial literacy education experiences to students, 18 Shapiro & Duncan employees taught more than 200 students at Gaithersburg Middle School how to create a budget, the basics of using a credit card and how to make smart financial decisions. Employees also participated in a bowling fundraiser for Junior Achievement, ultimately raising more than $8,900.

After teaming up with Operation Renewed Hope Foundation in 2012 to help end homelessness among Veterans, Shapiro & Duncan successfully employed a candidate after placing him in a plumbing apprenticeship.

As a part of a “Christmas in April” project, two Shapiro & Duncan employees, Sam Spence and Eugene Brown, worked with Clark Construction to make necessary renovations for a homeowner, including assorted piping repairs on the plumbing and heating system for a homeowner that desperately needed these repairs to live. All materials and supplies were donated by Shapiro & Duncan.

With its wide range of projects, Shapiro & Duncan truly shows how giving back can leave a positive impact on the community. To read more about their community involvement, click here.
