ABC on Nov. 13 renewed its Statement of Support with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a U.S. Department of Defense agency that promotes employer support of employees’ service. The agreement was signed during ABC’s Board of Directors meeting in Austin, Texas. In addition, ABC pledged to host a National Signing Day in the first quarter of 2013 to encourage its members and chapters to sign similar Statements of Support with ESGR. Newsline will announce the dates and more details early next year. ESGR’s mission is to “gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the law, and resolving conflicts through mediation,” by building a bridge between employers and their employees that serve in the reserve. As part of that mission, ESGR works to inform service members and their employers about their rights and responsibilities under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA). USERRA allows employees to participate in military service and receive prompt reinstatement into a job following military service. For more information, visit www.esgr.mil.
